Privacy Policy

Overview

This policy explains what information GoSignal collects, why, and what you can do about it. GoSignal is built by an individual developer, not a company with an ad or data-sales business — nothing described below is sold to third parties.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo to create your account.
• Tasks, goals, and progress. The tasks and goals you create, and your completion history, streaks, and passes, are stored to back up and sync your data.
• App usage. With your permission (Android's Usage Access setting), GoSignal reads how long you spend in the apps you've categorized, to enforce blocking and show your usage stats. It does not read the content inside other apps.
• Foreground app detection. GoSignal uses Android's Accessibility Service to detect which app you currently have open, so it can show a block screen when needed. It does not read screen content, keystrokes, or anything you type.
• Location. If you create a location-based task or goal, GoSignal uses your device's location (including in the background, only while that feature is active) to detect arrivals at places you choose, such as a gym.
• Health and fitness data. If you connect WHOOP, Fitbit, or Health Connect, GoSignal reads the specific metrics your tasks and goals are built around — for example steps, active calories, exercise minutes, sleep, or strain.
• Bluetooth connection state. If you enable Driving Mode, GoSignal detects when your phone connects to a car's Bluetooth to offer to turn the mode on.
• Friends. If you add friends inside the app, we store that connection and the stats you've chosen to share with them.

How we use this information

We use it to operate the app's core features: blocking apps according to your rules, tracking tasks and goals, backing up your data across devices, and showing you your own stats and streaks. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't build profiles of you for any purpose outside the app.

Where your data is stored

Account, task, and goal data is stored using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Functions), hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure. Health and location data connected through a third-party provider is processed to power the specific task or goal you set up, and OAuth tokens for those providers are stored securely rather than in plain text.

Third-party services

GoSignal connects to the following services, only for the features you choose to use. Each has its own privacy policy governing the data it handles:

• Google (Sign-In, Firebase, Health Connect)
• WHOOP
• Fitbit

Your choices

You can disconnect WHOOP, Fitbit, or Health Connect at any time from Settings. You can revoke location or usage-access permissions from your device's system settings, though doing so will limit the features that depend on them. To delete your account and associated data entirely, contact us using the email below.

Children's privacy

GoSignal is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
